Robin van Persie Backs United to defend Title

Robin van Persie has made it clear that Manchester United should be seen as clear favourites in the football betting to retain their Premier League title this season.

The striker, who scored two goals to help United to victory against Wigan in the Community Shield, has admitted the squad are confident of fighting off the challenges of Manchester City and Chelsea to retain their league crown this season.

Heading into this season on the back of a sensational debut year at Old Trafford, van Persie will once again be critical to the club hopes this season under new manager David Moyes.

The Dutchman looks to have begun the new season in the same manner he finished the last one, and van Persie doesn’t think anything can stop United from going on to dominate this year’s Premier League.

"We're doing really well and I believe in this team," said Van Persie. "We are the champions and based on that we are clear favourites. I believe in this team and I believe that we will compete until the end again."

After an extremely modest pre-season in which the Red Devils claimed just two wins, conceding 13 goals in seven games, David Moyes (and fans who bet on Premier League) will have been relieved to have come through the Community Shield with a comfortable 2-0 win. But the Scotsman will still be well aware that there is still some work to do if this squad are going to retain their title.

With the transfer window ending, Moyes is still searching for a midfielder. Moves for Thiago Alcantara and Cesc Fabregas failed to come to anything and Moyes has begun making noises suggesting there could be a scenario in which the club begin the season without making a big-name signing.
